I am here today to bring you some sad news: as of this day, March 13, 2016, Respawnables Database is no longer in developement, and will receive no further updates from this point onward. This is an announcement I’ve constantly put off making, in the hopes that my schedule would ease up and my desire to edit the site would return. Unfortunately, neither has happened, and at this point, it’s inevitable that I make this announcement at some point. Doing this sooner rather than later will save me the stress of updating the site and the guilt of missing updates like I have for the past couple months.
My busy schedule is the main reason for my decision to discontinue Respawnables Database. This year, the amount of work I’ve needed to produce for school and other commitments has reached an all-time high, and it will only continue to deteriorate from this point onward. As frequent visitors of my site will notice, there was no site update for these past couple of events; this is a direct consequence of my lack of spare time. Getting the site caught up seems a daunting task, as does continuing to update it for as long as Respawnables continues to live. I see no reason to go on like this just for the sake of it, as it will only continue to put pressure and stress on me.
The other reason I’m ending the site’s production is that Respawnables simply struggles to hold my attention the same way it did a couple years ago. I feel like all the things that got me into this game have been lost at some point over the last few years, which leaves me little motivation to continue playing. The developers consistently release new overpowered bundles and weapons that ruin the balance of the game that I loved. There has been a significant increase in the amount of in-app purchases in the game recently, which often lock all the best weapons behind a ridiculous $30 price tag. Even some events – marketed as being completely “free” – feel out of reach without spending money on the game.
The developers constantly nerf weapons unnecessarily and seem reluctant to nerf the weapons that actually do need balancing, worsening the game’s balancing issue. All the events from the past year have been nearly identical copies of past ones, only with clever retexturing and marketing to make them seem new again. This makes the game not only frustrating, but repetitive due to the lack of any actual new content. A new event concept or map would do very nicely, but I’ve lost hope after watching the same events repeated constantly over the last two years. Nearly everything I appreciated about the game when I first played it in January 2014 is gone, and what’s left is, if I’m brutally honest, a repetitive and frustrating mess of a game.
My lack of time and interest for the game has led me to the point I’m at now. I can’t see the game improving, I can’t see my interest returning and I can’t see my schedule becoming any easier to manage. For these reasons, I’ve made the difficult decision stop editing my site. I thank everyone for visiting and using Respawanbles Database; whether you’ve been following the site for ten minutes or ten months, thank you sincerely. It’s been amazing to see the site grow and develop, and to see it form such a huge following. In the past year alone, the site has gained over 100,000 views and over 25,000 unique visitors. I don’t think I’ll ever properly grasp just how many people that is. It’s truly amazing to see this this little project of mine has developed such a large following. Despite my lack of updates, the site consistently receives over 200 hits daily, which is absolutely incredible. Perhaps the hardest thing about my decision is leaving behind this amazing community, and the hundreds of people who still access my site despite my lack of posts. This is a community that I’ve looked up to and respected for my entire time running the site, and a community I want to thank for all they do for the game. You all made Respawanbles the game it was for me. To my viewers, Digital Legends and the community, thank you sincerely, and good luck going forward.
