About the Respawnables Database...
Humble beginnings.Respawnables Database was created on September 2, 2014. I'd always had a large interest in starting a website, but I didn't have the time to learn to code one, nor the money to host one. That was when I found Weebly. Weebly provided an answer to those two problems. I don't need to be able to code to use it, and they host the site themselves. They offer enough features on their free plan to develop a professional and well-made site, which impressed me a lot. It inspired me to start a site on a game I truly loved, and that game was Respawnables. The site first came out with the intention to become a data and information resource on Respawnables, hence the "Database" name. However, this went down in favour of weapon reviews and articles. I still kept the original name, though!
At that point, the Respawnables Wiki was very small and very disorganised, full of low quality articles with atrocious grammar. iChase's YouTube channel was just about the only place you could go for good info on the game. I wanted to change that. I wrote all my original articles, created weapon pages and wrote tips and explanations on the events of the game. The site didn't receive much attention though, and for a long time I left it abandoned, even taking it down entirely at one point. However, I felt strangely compelled to come back and write reviews for all the new events and articles. Respawnables Database was now a responsibility and an incomplete project that I had to finish. New year. New site. With the new year 2015 came a new work ethic, new goal and new philosophy for the Respawnables Database. My schedule and workload increased with the new year, but so did my productivity and ability to work quickly. With that came a sort of "Renaissance period" for the site. I installed some brand new features at the beginning of the year that I felt helped carry the site above and beyond my expectations. I expanded on the news section I installed in late 2014, added stats and data for weapons, added prize details to event pages and continued to write and update my articles section, which is the only aspect of my site that I feel entirely satisfied with in terms of quality and completion. I remodelled the site header, improving navigation and making the site more organised and easy to digest.
My work on the site did not go unrecognised. In February 2015, the site reached some crazy usage peaks with the release of Chinese New Year, which gave me an even bigger inspiration to keep going. To think my site was really helping people with the game was such a satisfying feeling! It took until late May 2015 for the site to really take off, but take off it did. It now consistently receives hundreds of visitors daily, and keeps breaking its own usage records with the releases of new events and updates. According to Google Analytics, the site has attracted an amazingly multicultural audience and averages around 2.5 pageviews per visitor, which is truly heartwarming and an amazing feeling. In July 2015, I looked at forming a community around my site with a forum, which turned out to be a difficult task. Weebly doesn't offer the features required to install software like phpBB, even with pro packages, so I had to find a good embeddable forum that was free of charge. I didn't have much hope, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found Muut, which is a good forum platform that, like Weebly, offers enough with its free package to run a community. I can't wait to see how it changes and develops, and I can't wait to see how the community grows from now on! |
About meI'm a young Australian Respawanbles player who has been actively playing Respawnables since January 2014. I absolutely love video games, but I was never really into shooter games. That changed when, for whatever reason, I decided to give Respawnables a try. To this day, it's the only shooter game that has truly captured my attention. It's different from everything else, and that's what I love about it. No other shooter game will ever do what Respawnables did for me.
I can confidently say that based on my hours and hours of game time and dedication that I am one of the better players of the game. I have a total of over 40,000 multiplayer kills, which puts me in the top 1,200 iOS players in the entire game. I own every Cash and Gold weapon, a number of premium weapons, and have completed matches with over 40 kills numerous times. As my increasingly busy schedule limits my ability to play the game and upload new content to the site, I'm not around as much as I used to, but I can assure you I'll never stop playing and updating my site, which is still unbelievably incomplete. Even if Respawnables is slowing becoming "pay-to-win", I love it too much to stop now. |
To all my visitors, those who've read this far, Digital Legends and Respawnables' community, thank you for bringing me this experience, and allowing me to create something that has not only been useful to me, but to others as well!
Tables were created using tablesgenerator.com, site was made using weebly.com, forum was created using muut.com and event countdowns were generated on timeanddate.com. Thanks to those sites for helping with everything that I can't code myself!
Additional credit must also be given to the Respawnables Wiki, which was a resource for much of the weapon artwork by Digital Legends that I was not able to rip from the game myself.
