"Migrating host in progress": what does that mean?
A quote taken from Digital Legends' FAQ and help page:
The matchmaking system present in the Respawnables works by gathering players in a lobby before a match. One player is chosen as the host. If that players connection becomes unsavoury or the player leaves the game a host migration will take place and a new host is chosen. - taken from Digital Legends' support page
So basically, each time a room online is created, the game randomly chooses a player to "host" that room. If that player's connection goes bad or they disconnect, the game will bring up the migrating host screen and start changing the host. During the time that you're stuck motionless while you wait for the game to finish migrating, the game is selecting a new host. You can't really "know" whether or not you're host unfortunately, this info seems to be something that the developers like to keep hidden.
Migrating host does cause a few issues with the game, including:
Migrating host does cause a few issues with the game, including:
- If you die shortly before host migration occurs, when you come back to the game you will be alive again; the same applies for other players.
- Sometimes it'll take longer for you to return to the match (perhaps if the game selects you as host). This means that if someone loads up faster than you do for whatever reason, they may be able to kill you while you're left helpless.
- Occasionally, migrating host will trigger lag or will make the game crash.
- It spoils the overall momentum of the game, and is really annoying when you're fighting a group of players.
