The story of the Minigun
On August 24, 2014, Digital Legends added this post to their Facebook page. The image included in the post, which you can see above, had a little secret hidden inside it that you can see in the greyed version of the image to the right. At the time, this weapon was foreign. For ten months following the post, players discussed why there was a minigun in the collection of Respawnables weapons when no such thing existed in the game. Some believed it was a mistake; others though it was a teaser for an upcoming update. We don't know if this really was a mistake by the developers, but eventually, almost a year after the post was uploaded, we finally got to see the weapon in the game.
The weapon, aptly named the Minigun, was officially introduced to the game on June 29, 2015 with Salute Out Troops update, which included the weapon as a prize for the event of the same name. The weapon happens to be nearly identical to the Siege Cannon, except with much better accuracy while moving and significantly higher clip size. This story raises some questions amongst players; do the developers stockpile ideas in advance for new updates? Why is it so alike to the Siege Cannon? Is it because the weapon was made as an alternate design for the Siege Cannon?
We will most likely never know the answers to these questions, but it's still immensely satisfying to finally own the weapon that has been anticipated for so long.
